I work on climate change for London Councils, representing its 33 local councils. A huge amount of work is being done here at all levels of govt. Councils must report on climate change indicators & be part of a mandatory ETS. We are working on projects aimed at getting London off the national grid and retrofitting 1.8 million of London's homes.
NZ’s roll back of nearly all recent programmes (powerstation moratorium; ETS; bulb ban etc) & the fact the new Govt is questioning climate change science in Select Committee beggars belief.
The UK Govt is launching miles-based flight taxes & NZ will have the highest levy (c. $300). Campaigns against food miles of Anchor Butter (full pg ads in the London Metro) show NZ is not immune & has much to lose from other countries’ climate concerns, especially if it carries on its current head-in-the-sand policies.
National/ACT may be in power, but not all kiwis share their view that this is something that can be ignored or will go away.
