I'm currently producing a film which looks at the impact of climate change on the tiny, unique Pacific community of Takuu, at atoll 250km NE of Bougainville in Papua New Guinea. I'm concerned about this issue because I've seen first hand the kinds of impacts it can have. The situation on Takuu is complex and is made more so by its political and economic context. Without adequate infrastructure and support, adaptation or even relocation are extremely difficult for the local government or the community to organise or carry through. Climate change is a systemic problem and it will have systemic effects, but evidence suggests that the people who are experiencing these effects at the moment are not the ones who have contributed most to making them and they are relatively powerless to help themselves.
