Who do you think would make a great new celebrity ambassador for the Sign On campaign?
Submitted by Gareth Hughes on Mon, 25/05/2009 - 21:57
Lucy Lawless, Stephen Tindall, Cliff Curtis, Peter Gordon and Jim Salinger are all ambassadors...who should sign on next?

John Key?
John Key?
Great idea!
That is our ultimate goal there is no doubt. He was on TV this morning and said he would sign on ... but then waffled on about "interim targets" that really would not suffice.
I think we can do it though if we get enough people to Sign On!

Jason Gunn?
Maybe Jason Gunn could sign on?
Stephen Tindall
Are Greenpeace really not concerned about what Stephen Tindall represents as an ambassador? I don't think people should be excluded on the grounds of personal belief etc, but does Greenpeace think that Tindall really believes in the principles of the organisation or is he just using this as an opportunity for good publicity. And if the former, when will the public see some of those principles being applied to his business model? We all know that the politicians can talk and talk to their hearts content at Copenhagen but immediate change is implemented by everyday people making everyday changes and The Warehouse's policy of selling poorly made products, which quickly end up in the landfill, sourced from areas which most certainly do not uphold international human rights or environmental standards seems like it contradicts what Greenpeace stands for.
Hi Alice, I think its very
Hi Alice,
I think its very important to have whole spectrum of people appealing on JK.
I am pleased to see that there are people who understand that climate change is not only a "green" issue. It will hit (or its already hitting) everybody - including the business.
Those people are not stupid. They know they can lose a lot and not only money this time. They have kids too and they know in which kind of future they can live.
I will thank to everybody who will sign on and help to all of us win this battle and I hope I will be able to say thank you even to John Key.
They are pulling the Carbon over our eyes
Oil Stocks and Price Shocks
WE Need too Stop looking at Oil to run our Railways use coal again with Steam-Electric Locomotives designed in USA in the 1980-90 but never developed as to cheaper source of fuel , it is easier to charge more surcharge for Diesel fuel . Google TW Blasingame Com inc and there Steam-Electric Locomotives . The Late Dante Porta railway designer called there design "The Atomic Bomb for Steam" . Fuel cost reduction of 75% these Loco's would work cleaner quieter and cooler than Diesel-Electric Locomotives. There design was made with every effort to simplify and eliminate maintenance requirements on all systems so cutting running cost's . If anybody can find me there design plans . I would Love to see if these could be developed into a Working Locomotive . I live in New Zealand and we have Huge reserves of Coal which they want to turn into Diesel , Save a couple of steps and go Steam !

Healthy Soils Equal’s Water Health
We are having the Carbon pulled over our eyes. Is the Climate change due to Carbon or are there other more sinister gases which we breath that are causing Global Warming . Goggle what’s in the air we breath .We all breath in : Argon 0.93%, Oxygen 20.95%,Nitrogen @ 78.08% and Carbon dioxide @ only 0.038%
So I ask the Question Carbon at so low a rate .038% why is this being targeted as the Source of all the Worlds problems . Look at Nitrogen 78.08% and a Green house GAS 310 times worse than CO2 and our intensified Farming practices are pouring on 10,000's kg per year on to pasture that doesn't need it or either can't coup with it so over 50% of applied N ends up in the Air we Breath as Nitro’s oxide and the rest passes through our over supplied soils as Nitrates into our Water ways which we Drink. When the soil is over supplied with Nitrogen Nature Shuts Down and doesn't do it's job , Earth Worms die off and Bacteria changes when we loose EARTH Worms we end up with Very HIGH Counts of E-Coli in out Drinking Water and Food Chain.
Wake up is it Carbon which is doing the Deed to our Climate or is it the Chemical Industries feeding our Farmers the Poison’s of there Mind's . Nature doesn't need all this added Nitrogen and Super Phosphates Acid based Fertilisers to Grow Healthy Soils and Crop's and Live Stock ! Healthy Soils will store (Sink) 3 Times more Carbon than the Atmosphere can .
So Why are We Letting them do it ?

Nitrous Oxide is 310 times more than CO2
'Although contributing to many other physical and chemical reactions, the major atmospheric constituents, nitrogen (N2), oxygen (O2), and argon (Ar), are not greenhouse gases. This is because homonuclear diatomic molecules such as N2 and O2 and monatomic molecules such as Ar have no net change in their dipole moment when they vibrate and hence are almost totally unaffected by infrared light. Although heteronuclear diatomics such as carbon monoxide (CO) or hydrogen chloride (HCl) absorb IR, these molecules are short-lived in the atmosphere owing to their reactivity and solubility. As a consequence they do not contribute significantly to the greenhouse effect and are not often included when discussing greenhouse gases.'

LOL Shut up ----- But do
LOL Shut up -----
But do you really think its greenhouse gasses ?
I mean really all the planets i the solar system are heating up , and theres no humans on the other planets (that we know of)
Could it be possible because we are moving closer to the galatic plane that we are going to naturally have more energy directed towards the planet and hence we will heat up ?
Planets heating up?
A few things:
1) The other planets are not "all heating up" - those that are coming closer to the sun are, the others aren't.
2) Solar output and cosmic rays have been monitored very carefully - there is no relation between them and global warming. Green house gasses and temperature do correlate - better than any other phenomena.
3) IIRC it takes 75,000,000 year to orbit of galaxy. The temperature change we're talking about has happened in the last 100 years. If we had shifted our position within the galaxy significantly - the stars would look quite different; but they don't.
Cheers
Who do you think would make a great new celebrity ambassador for
Hello,
I do not need to ignore each other as you say because they are different.
A question.
Who do you think and make a new celebrity ambassador for the campaign to connect?
I say that all the ambassadors are entitled to this privilege, because you give all out for your country and that other countries will follow.
I say I saw Lucy Lawless in the position, but simply because I love, I love and am enjoying it very much. But I know damn all of you you do and do very well.
So I do not want to offend people by saying that because I respect you and appreciates you too.
I will not be a fan of Lucy Lawless I would not even know there was a launch campaign for global warming. That is why I warned my virtual friends and my family to participate by signing.
For in France means not much to talk about is really on the lip.
I am proud of you all because you believe and you are responsible in what you do and I do not think the people involved to advertise. Personally for me, this is not the case.
On this, I wish you a very good day and a very good continuation. My kind regards to you all. Ghislaine
The actions today preserve the planet tomorrow
Hello,
What I do understand that there are people who ask me these questions.
But for what?
What should I do?
What this tells us?
I still have 14 people in my guest list who are not even going to register to get more signatures, for what?
Simply that they have to say they are not concerned.
So I ask them why I have accepted that the register to receive an invitation from me. If this is not to disappoint me because they say they are my friends, etc. ....
For me I do not agree it does not make things to please others, but to help others, because I no longer of interest in this.
I say that we must respond together to build the concrete world of tomorrow.
On a daily basis: eat seasonal produce, consume less meat, buy local products, to be its own compost, how to act are not lacking, it is necessary to find the most appropriate ones.
The first echo gesture is first to break routines, to give meaning to all our actions and take the liberty to make choices.
To save water, energy, change of mode of transport. Everyone must improve.
Do not be afraid to speak in each city, village to our mayors, our general advisers, our ministers and punish those who did not change.
There is respect for the environment. Washable diapers for children and adults, organic cotton, avoid many tons of waste per year. But also respect for others.
There is the economic bulb which saves 30% energy. Turn off the lights in the other parts when not, do not leave appliances on standby, this is the energy therefore diminish over everything.
By planting forests to offset the climate emissions of CO2.
I will stop because there are so many things to say to help the planet breathe easier.
Jonah Lomu
Jonah's from the Pacific where climate change is going to really hit home - let's get Jonah to Sign on.
Any sports stars would be awesome
I was thinking Anton Oliver - but Jonah would be awesome, or how about Joe Rokofoko. Any of the PI players will have a stake in ocean rises.
ambassadors
I agree Peter, we had a night at Mt Smart gathering signatures over the weekend and got a pretty bad reception from a lot of people there. Perhaps someone like Jonah Lomu or some other Rugby ambassador would help to change their minds.
...actually Jonah is a
...actually Jonah is a possibility - we are getting in touch with him at present. Wouldn't that be great!
My suggestion
I would like to see the likes of Young Sid, Savage, Mareko and Aradhna to Sign On. Personally, artists are always writing about what is important to them, so how great would it be to have the young generation/hip hop world grasp and be apart of the climate change debate.
Get the young blood of the HIP HOP, R&B to sign on
I'd love to see the yound blood of the music industry, sign on that's an idea to put out there to them. I also think that the All Black's should have already jumped on board too? Y do you think that they haven't, do they not suport, the views of 208223 people. Do they think that there is a planet B?
Tim Cossar - Head of New Zealand's Tourism Industry Ass.
Tourism is one of New Zealand's largest industries, and relies heavily on our clean green image. So while Mr Cossar may not be a "consumer celebrity" he's is influential and representative of so many large and small businesses around the country.
Tourism also has flow on benefits to the whole economy down to the "stuck in the mud" farming sector, as tourists buy our goods while they are here, and when they return home they often have more affinity with our signature exports, be it NZ lamb, wine or clothing designers.
We cannot escape the fact that tourism and agriculture are our major industries, both are at significantly at stake if we don't show a leadership in environmental concern and push ahead with sustainability, setting targets that equal the main tourism and export markets.
clean and green image OT but ..
As Simon pointed out "relies heavily on our clean green image"
when was this more than an image or more exactly a vision from soem PR firm.
so may be it is time we really live up to it and do somethign before people overseas realise that our clean and green image is only that an image nothing else.
I wonder
I wonder if Aunty Helen in New York, New York is allowed to sign on - that'd be funny.
uHHM
uHHM wAT???
.
maybe bring back thingee? and maybe Dave Gibson from elemeno p and brooke fraser
Someone Young?
Maybe get like a group of teenagers or younger people as it is going to affect THEIR futures the most? Isn't it all about saving the future of our youth and our youth's youth? Using someone young might have a bigger impact, just like the speech by Severn Suzuki at the UN Earth Summit 1992?
It was an amazing speech. And it makes a serious impact on whoever listens to it.
Could we do the same again?
[link to her speech http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaOJrJ_oqFU&feature=related]
good idea
That's what I was thinking. I've tried my friends but nobody wants to go as far as getting involved directly (they've just signed on). But I definitely think getting a group of teenagers is a good idea...
I've listened to Severn's speech so many times, and it's truly inspiring. A few months ago, after listening to her speech, I came up with an idea of doing a similar thing for John Key. I'm currently writing an article, and I hope that someone can pass it onto him once it's finished..... What do you think?
What about netballers?
Jonah would be cool what about some netballers like Maria Tutaia ?
Tim Murphy
Tim Murphy is the editor of the New Zealand Herald. I've already sent him a Sign On invite. The Herald reaches millions of New Zealanders, has a Green Page every Monday, but could do a lot more to stimulate debate over sustainability and climate change. Greenpeace don't advertise in the Herald and have not had a major presence in the Herald with the Sign On campaign, so are missing a hugely influential, older, and probably richer section of the community. These are the people that have influence in business and in policy setting. They are the people that must be convinced that something needs to change. Much harder demographic to influence than having a few Shorty St actors unfortunately. But if you can get this section of the community to Sign On, you'll go a long way to getting John Key on board. Best of Luck.
The Press
On the subject of newspapers, The Press in Christchurch would be a really good to get on board. They made a huge push for Earth Hour a couple of years ago with loads of ads and articles so I reckon they'd be open to helping out with Sign On.
Someone young!
Maybe J Williams, he is a great upcoming artist.
We need some younger people to intrest the younger generation of NZ, after all, it is their future at stake here.
Dan Carter
Dan Carter would totally help get Cantabrians signed on!!
Imagine if we got the All
Imagine if we got the All Blacks on board. If they did something as simple as wearing green socks for a test match the media coverage would be huge!
who should sign on next
hI GUYS
yOU NO WHO PLAYS A BIG PART IN YOUNG KIDS LIVES WELL IN MY OPINION I THINK ITS THE PEOPLE IN THE MUSIC BIZZ....
aLL YOUNG TEENAGES COPY WHAT WE SEE IN MUSIC VIDEOS SO I THINK THAT SOME OF NEW ZEALANDS GREAT YOUNG TALENTS SUCH AS P MONEY,SCRIBE, DAVID DALLAS AND SO ON AND SO FORTH SHOULD SIGN ON. i THINK THAT IF YOUNG PEOPLE SEE THE PEOPLE THEY WANNA BE SO MUCH ALIKE SIGNING ON THEN MAYBE THE THEME OF SIGNING ON WILL GROW.
I NO IT SOUNDS STUPID BUT PEOPLE IN THE MUSIC BIZZ COULD REALLY HELP OUT.
ALSO JOHN KEY SHOULD SIGN HIS LAZY POLITICAL BUHM ON LOL>
What's the criteria?
What's the criteria for being a "celebrity" supporter? Do you have to actually show some committment to the issue or is it just so people can get their faces attached to an "in" cause? I watched Stephen Tindall's video and nowhere did he mention what the Warehouse's committment to reducing climate change actually is. Surely importing cheaply made consumer goods from countries like China goes totally against the idea of reducing climate change?? He talks about maintaining our 100% pure image. Is it really about just upholding an image or about actually doing something meaningful?
This guy woud make a great ambassador
The most terrifying video you'll ever see - check it out
