Public Consultation on Climate Change Policy - finally!
This just in from the Beehive - they've finally seen fit to release dates and venues for their public consultation on climate change, now we've really got the chance to tell our MPs what sort of target New Zealand really wants!
The dates and venues can be found right here, but in summary, there's a meeting in a different city every weeknight starting on the 6th July, in Wellington, then cycling through Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown, Hamilton, New Plymouth, Napier, Nelson in that order.
I know it's fairly short notice, but this is absolutely our best chance so far to speak to the politicians directly, and let them know how serious we are about a 40% by 2020 target.
So as well as attending your local meeting, and dragging along all your mates/family, how about we throw some ideas around about how we can get the rest of the public aware and interested too?
Maybe announcements at school/work/uni, flyers on noticeboards, etc? Any suggestions or ideas would be fantastic!
Cheers guys!

Really important to go to the climate change meetings!
Thanks Simon for putting up a notice about the meetings with Climate Change Cabinet Ministers over New Zealand's proposed climate change 2020 target.
It's really essential that Sign On supporters turn up to these meetings and tell the Government we need a 40% target. Greenpeace will provide some analysis later this week once the Government releases it's own discussion document, but please please make a note in your diary or put a note on your fridge so you can attend the public meeting.
After attending the negotiations and talking with negotiators, officials and NGO members from other countries, I am convinced New Zealand is being asked to do more than the climate sceptics and the polluter lobbies like Greenhouse Policy Coalition want. We can make a difference by adding our voice of support for the 40% target.
The Government is likely to approach a target by working out what is convenient for New Zealand to do and picking a target to match. What the Government should do is pick a target based on what the planet needs. And that's 40% by 2020.
Hope to see you at one of the meetings.
