Day one aboard the Esperanza
Day one aboard the Esperanza
Kia Orana!
Here we are finally on the Esperanza. Man, it’s pretty amazing, not sure what I had expected but it has definitely blown my mind! It’s huge – and there is a fabulous crew on board. It’s very humbling to be around a group of people who are all passionate about the planet.
The flight was a breeze! I even managed to watch a couple of films and read up a bit on climate change in the Pacific and around the World. The locals upon our arrival were fabulous; they’re all excited about the ship being at the wharf and are very welcoming to Greenpeace. It goes to show how grateful they are that we are giving them a helping hand. There was a public open boat this afternoon before we arrived and we’ve been told there were hundreds of visitors on board, some people even came through twice!
Whilst packing last night, which took me a while as I’ve never been the type of girl to pack lightly, it really hit me how important this journey is. I have been totally overwhelmed by people’s support and have even shed tears over some comments on this blog. The more I learn and throw myself into it, the more I want to help. I know I can’t do it alone but knowing that we’re in it together taking steps over-joys me. Finally, we’re coming together to help one another – this is my vision of the perfect World.
A jam-packed day tomorrow and there will be lots to report, it’s a lovely evening and I believe a group walk is planned.
Stay tuned, as I’ll be keeping y’all updated as often as possible, I’m also updating Twitter when exciting stuff happens and keeping my Sign On Facebook group up to date If your friends and family haven’t Signed On yet, get them to - it’s for the most important cause.
Love & light –
Keisha. x

Keisha - You're such a sweetie! What a lovely blog.
Please be sure to pass on a message to the people of the Pacific that Kiwis haven't and will not forget them. There are plenty of us here prepared to do what it takes to stop climate change and preserve their way of life.
Hi Keisha,
Your blogs are great, and I'm really looking forward to the next installments!
Good luck for the rest of the trip, and thanks for all you're doing to help get this important message out.
cheers, Michael
Thanks for the update Keisha. It is great for us to be able to follow your journey.
Kia ora koe Keisha Castle-Hughes.
I would also like to congratulate you on getting behind such a worthy cause. If it weren't for organisations like the Greenpeace and others, we wouldn't have been made aware of climate change and the effects it has on the world let alone little ole' Aotearoa.
I hope your discussions with the Pacific Island delegates goes well and I know your encouragement will be well received. I also hope that the action taken by your fellow Celebrity Sign Ons will have a "trickle-down" effect on New Zealand, in particular John Key who "owes it to our clean green brand and the future of the world's climate and economy to Sign On" to this campaign. How great would it be, if we (New Zealand) could be the first to initiate a global trend and benchmark when it comes to climate change and options available to us in reducing our global emissions.
By the way are you meeting any of the Rarotongan Ariki? They're closely related to Maori, and it maybe a good idea to talk to them as well? Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangi Kaahu, had a great friendship with that family and often discussed issues concerning both New Zealand and Rarotonga.
On a sidenote: did the captain give you a run down of the emissions being used to fly the plane that got you to the islands? Anyway, soldier on and I hope the weather is as warm as I remember.
Kia tau te mauri!

just like to say i think your doing a wonderful job in representing our country for greenpeace.........some may say its not worth it but i think that our world and everything in it is worth so much more than money....... ive been a fan of yours since whale rider and think that your doing a great job with everything you do........... keep up the good work........ cheering you on from palmerston north new zealand.......... crying is good just remember that crying is a way your body shows your emotions and sometimes its a good release of stress....... smile just know that the world is only full of beautiful people like you trying to make the world beautiful again xoxo
nice, fresh, crisp video *thx* :)
Kia ora (I'm still in Aotearoa) Keisha, I am totally in awe of you!! As a working mum you have also found the time to visit our Cook Island neighbours and highlight the importance of taking action on Climate Change.. If only our politicians showed your level of committment!! =)
You rock! An awesome inspiration even for some of us older, less pro-active, ones. You reminded me, that, there's more involved, in taking responsibilty for the planet's health, than just recycling and sticking to quota's, because sometimes people forget that they are polluting just by buying brands from certain countries that don't agree to conservation laws, which are not adequate enough sometimes to stop the decline of species'. The circle of life affects the rich ones later, than the ones who have to survive off the land. Pollution is instant, Chain reaction is global, fish and birds are not bound by borders. The effects are there now and people are ignoring it... but not you! Let them know Keisha! Thanks from a small time recycler.
Sincerely wish the best to you and your new family. Kia kaha God bless
yeah saving the world what a buzz!
